At the end of the second quarter of 2009, these service providers delivered broadband service to over 102 million customers – representing over 75% of the total broadband installed base in the region.

The landscape of the UK broadband market changed markedly in the second quarter; Carphone Warehouse’s acquisition of ailing Tiscali catapulted the service provider into the second slot in the market, surpassing Virgin Media. CPW now joins BT and Virgin Media in the ranks of UK providers with over four million residential broadband subscribers. Sky, the number four BSP in the market, continues to post impressive quarterly net adds, and has realized organic growth in its subscriber base of 29% in the past 12 months. Talk of an impending merger between T-Mobile and Orange UK could be the shot in the arm needed to stave off further subscriber declines for Orange.
